English 1100 â€“ Academic Writing and Reading: Introduces students to principles of effective multi-literacy practices required of college-level thinkers, writers, readers, and communicators. Students are introduced to writing for different contexts with an emphasis on the differences between informal writing and formal, revised, research-based academic writing. Students are taught how to apply the writing process to plan a longer writing project, conduct college-level research, organize drafts, incorporate sources into their writing, give feedback to peer writers, receive feedback from peer writers, and refine their writing style for different audiences and purposes. 

Developmental Education 0100 â€“ Foundations for Academic Writing and Reading: Intensive instruction in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Emphasizes reflection, revision, collaboration, and self-assessment to prepare students for collegiate success. ENG is online and they complete on their own schedule and DEV has meeting times.

A representative from the Academic Engagement team will reach out to guide you through the registration process. Once you are enrolled in the courses, you'll be able to purchase the textbook from the 91±¬ÁÏ bookstore.

Yes. The textbook cost $50 to $85.77 depending on your selection. The textbook is available to rent, download, or purchase new or used.

These are college-level courses so your participation and performance will be graded and recorded on your official college transcript. If you decide not to complete the course after it begins, you'll receive a non-passing grade, which will affect your academic standing. Please review the  standards for more details.

Both courses in the program are offered fully online. ENG 1100 is self-paced with no set meet time. DEV 0100 is synchronous, meaning there is a scheduled online meeting time with your instructor and peers. Therefore, you must be available Monday through Thursday from 9:50-11:30 a.m..

Yes, registering for the courses in the program will automatically generate a tuition charge. However, because you have been selected for this program, your tuition and fees for the six credit hours in the program will be fully covered. Your only financial responsibilities will be a $50 sign-up fee, which will be refunded upon successful completion of the program (earning a grade of C or higher).
The refund will be applied to your Fall 2026 account at 91±¬ÁÏ University.

Students will be paired with an Academic Engagement Program Coordinator and a Peer Navigator to support them throughout the entire Summer Bridge Program. Online meetings with both your coordinator and peer navigator will provide helpful tips and strategies to start the program strong, check-ins midway to keep you on track, and guidance at the end of the program to plan for continued success.
