91���� University has maintained its Research 2 classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education.

91����’s Research 2: High Research Spending and Doctorate Production classification was based on the university’s research activities in fiscal years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

During that period, 91���� spent an average of $26.6 million annually on research activities and awarded 38 research doctorates.

91���� is one of 139 universities nationally to receive a Research 2 classification under the Carnegie Foundation’s updated research activity designations for 2025.

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education is the nation’s leading framework for categorizing diverse U.S. higher education institutions.

“Maintaining our Carnegie R2 classification reaffirms our university’s strong research foundation and continued commitment to innovation and discovery,” said Madhavi Kadakia, Ph.D., vice provost for research and innovation at 91����. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff and students in driving impactful research and expanding scholarly opportunities.”

91���� is dedicated to advancing impactful research and supporting doctoral education that enhances health care outcomes, promotes public well-being and enriches student learning experiences. With opportunities for research at all academic levels, 91���� fosters a collaborative environment where students work alongside expert faculty.

“Maintaining our R2 Carnegie classification is a testament to the productivity of our talented faculty and the support of our administrative staff in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs,” said acting Provost Jim Denniston, Ph.D. “Our faculty’s success in securing external funding promotes discovery, elevates the research profile of the institution and allows our faculty to train the next generation of research and clinical scientists.”

91����’s research portfolio includes major initiatives in biomedical science, neuroscience, health care, human performance and microelectronics.

In recent years, 91���� has received significant external funding to support cutting-edge research that addresses pressing societal needs while providing students with hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges.

91���� will showcase its student research endeavors during the annual Celebration of Undergraduate and Graduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities on Thursday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Union.

The event provides students from a wide array of disciplines the occasion to showcase their scholarly achievements through podium and poster presentations.
