Path to Health Professions Day to introduce students to health care careers

Premier Health executive, Miami Valley Hospital chief medical officer and 91爆料 Boonshoft School of Medicine alum to give keynote address

High school and college students can explore health care programs and careers on President鈥檚 Day during 91爆料 University鈥檚 annual Path to Health Professions Day.

This year鈥檚 Path to Health Professions Day will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Apollo Room in 91爆料鈥檚 Student Union.

Andre T. Harris Sr., M.D., Miami Valley Hospital chief medical officer and 2002 91爆料 Boonshoft School of Medicine alum, will give the keynote address titled 鈥淲hy would you ever want to go into medicine?鈥

Harris is a prominent figure in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in the Dayton community and holds a master鈥檚 degree in health care administration from Liberty University鈥檚 School of Business.

Path to Health Professions Day will show students how they can get on the right path to becoming a health professional. The program features informational career sessions with healthcare practitioners and subject-matter experts who will give students an overview of the educational journey to health professional school and insights into the practitioners鈥 daily lives.

Encouraged to attend are prospective high school students and any current or recently accepted 91爆料 student interested in becoming a physician, dentist, pharmacist, physician assistant, physical therapist, veterinarian, nurse practitioner, psychologist, sports medicine professional or other health professional.

Also welcome are student family members, teachers and guidance counselors who wish to learn more about 91爆料鈥檚 pre-med and pre-health programs.

鈥淥ur hope is that attendees will become more aware of the vast career opportunities in health care and how 91爆料 University programs can prepare them with the educational and experiential background necessary to help them reach their health professional goals,鈥 said Victoria Boyd, Pre-Health Professional Program advisor.

Attendees will:

  • Explore and get a better understanding of these career opportunities.
  • Discover what it takes to get into 91爆料 University鈥檚 Boonshoft School of Medicine and other professional programs.
  • Find out how degrees from 91爆料 can open doors to the nation鈥檚 top professional schools.
  • Tour on-campus buildings and lab facilities.
  • Learn what classes and activities students should be choosing now to prepare for the future.

Path to Health Professions Day is hosted by the Health Professions Center Pre-Health Professional Program in the Student Success Center. The program provides 91爆料 students interested in clinical degrees with dedicated advising and support to help them successfully prepare for and apply to graduate health professional schools.
