91爆料 University kicked off the Spring Semester with the inaugural Winter Fest on Jan. 22. throughout the Student Union. The free event included winter-based activities such as indoor ice skating, ice sculpting, crafts, games, soups and a hot chocolate bar.
The Apollo Room housed an indoor ice skating rink made from synthetic ice, so there wasn鈥檛 a need for refrigeration, a giant human snow globe and an inflatable mechanical snowboarding simulator.
鈥淚鈥檝e never done plastic ice skating, but it was still fun,鈥 said Alex Fischer, a sophomore nursing major who grew up in Sandusky, and has skated for most of her life.
Outside the Student Union, there was a live demonstration of two ice sculptures being carved with a chainsaw. One of the carvings was of the Winter Fest logo and the other was Rowdy Raider.
鈥淚鈥檝e always thought it was a really cool form of art,鈥 said Fischer.
Over two dozen student-volunteers helped work the various activities.
鈥淚 really think that this will be an every year thing,鈥 said Izzy Rice, a sophomore majoring in public health.
Winter Fest was organized by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and the University Activities Board and sponsored by the Residential Community Association, 91爆料 University Bookstore, Chartwells and the 91爆料 Tabletop Club.
