In the early hours of Aug. 28, Eric Corbitt, Student Union and Campus Recreation director, John Cox, assistant director for facilities and operations at the 91���� University Nutter Center, and Dylan Hall, a mechanical engineering student, installed nine disc-golf baskets on the front lawn of the Dayton Campus.

The eager trio carefully laid out the nine-hole course, placed signage, marked tee boxes with white and yellow spray paint and of course tested their design.

The course begins near the rear of Parking Lot 1 and weaves through trees and around the intramural soccer fields. The final hole is located near the south side of the Russ Engineering Center.

“While there’s not a ton of trees, there are enough to make it challenging,” said Corbitt.

The course is open to the 91���� community and was added to the UDisc app, which includes over 10,000 disc golf courses.

“With this course being right here on campus no one has to travel really far,” said Sam Sowers, a mechanical engineering major who has played the course. “If you’re living in the dorms you can just walk over and play the course.”

Campus Recreation asks golfers to play in groups of two and not to share equipment. Players unable to physically distance must wear a mask.

“This is great for everything that is going on,” said Sowers. “With it being outside you can social distance a lot better, you’re able to engage with other people and keep your distance.”
