A dozen staff volunteers from the Student Union helped pull weeds, build new garden beds and lay down mulch to make sure students were ready to learn this summer in the 91爆料 University community garden on the Dayton Campus.
For three years the community garden has helped provides students learning opportunities and a chance to get their hands dirty while participating in the biology of food course taught by Lisa Kenyon, associate professor of biological sciences.
鈥淭his is what it鈥檚 about. Working together for the students,鈥 said Kenyon.
Volunteers worked for several hours to prepare the garden for the start of the 2018 summer semester, which begins May 7.
Five Rivers MetroParks and 91爆料 Physical Plant donated compost and tools for the cleanup. All of the food that is grown in the garden this summer will be donated to a local food pantry.
